Copenhagen Light Festival 2026

  • Sentinel 2026 The sentinal by Lucy McDonnel
If you’re heading out to experience Copenhagen Light Festival, BLOX is a great place to start. In collaboration with DAC, the festival presents three artworks at BLOX – on Bryghuspladsen, in the public Harbour Passage beneath BLOX, and on the wooden quay facing the harbour.

A house full of light

On Bryghuspladsen, you’ll find an artwork you don’t just look at – you step inside and become part of it. Thousands of small openings let beams of light and drifting smoke create a magical atmosphere inside the structure. In the evening, the holes glow with coloured light, while during the day they allow sunlight to stream in, making the artwork experienceable even in daylight – unlike many light installations.
The work, Brocken Series, is created by Japanese artist Yasuhiro Chida and is inspired by the natural phenomenon known as the Brocken Spectre, which can occur in mountainous areas when a person’s shadow appears enormous and is surrounded by a rainbow-like halo.

The wingspan of a bird

On the wooden quay in front of DAC, a giant bird has come to rest. In The Sentinel by Lucy McDonnell, the wings form an archway that visitors can walk through. Birds around the world are under threat from climate change, and this striking and beautiful artwork draws attention to their vulnerability.

Blue shapes beneath the water’s surface

Below the harbour’s surface – in the Harbour Passage – a video artwork creates a mysterious blue underwater world. Getting Lost in Bluescapes is created by artist Mikhel Pajuste, who is fascinated by blue light and its importance to our biological rhythm, while also evoking associations with the sea and the sky.

The artworks are part of Copenhagen Light Festival and have been created in collaboration with DAC.

The works open on 29 January at 5:00 pm as part of the exhibition opening at DAC.

From 30 January, the artworks can be experienced daily from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm until:

  • Getting Lost in Bluescapes, Harbour Passage: 29 January – 22 February
